The coastal hamlet of Wilderness lies in the middle of the Wilderness National Park which is made up of a string of lakes and stretches from the Wilderness Lagoon to Island Lake, Langvlei, Rondevlei, Swartvlei and Groenvlei.

The Wilderness Lakes include reeded edges, marsh vegetation and Milkwood forest. This charming world of lakes, rivers, forests and beaches gently unfolds against a backdrop of the Outeniqua mountains. The Nature trails wind through densely wooded forest and along tranquil rivers, enjoy a stroll along the lake boardwalks, which scout the lakes banks and link up with the Kingfisher Walking Trails.
